If I were Sally’s fifth grade teacher, I’d be Mrs. Berkeley.
That means precisely what it says, by the way. If you were Mrs. Berkeley, you’d be her, too!
ANYWAY! We’re about to jump ahead in time here to the next key scene, and then again to the one after that. I think I’ve created an adequate segue for that, but while you’re looking at this page I suggest taking note of some of the details. Not that I think I’m being particularly witty or skillful, but there is some visual story telling going on here. It may work a little better in the book, but a couple pages from now you may find yourself flipping back through this page to double check something, among other things.
As long as I’m publishing this graphic novel as a serial webcomic, I might as well provide the assist in this blog when it may be needed.
Speaking of which, let me go over a few things that we’ve covered, in order to explain continuity better. Marshall obviously knows something about Carl’s origins, since he asked what it’s like to have him as a brother. One of the reasons for this is that Marshall’s parents are also members of the Harmless Free Radicals, and were part of the mission to save Carl. One may surmise from his recent questions that Marshall either wasn’t told all of the details, or he didn’t fully believe them, and wanted to hear Carl’s version of the story.
Rest assured, every time we return to events that are dependent on these details we’ll learn a little more, and it will be fairly consistent. But, if you still have questions right now, I’m very happy to answer them! It helps me keep it all together.
Speaking of which… Here’s another detail. Note that Carl has spent time in the land of Fairy. Traditionally, when someone who’s been in Fairy longer than the typical human might live, they age dramatically and even turn to dust. One may assume for now that either this is not true in this story, or that because not only does time fly funny in Fairport but the rest of the county, including Jam as well, then Jam is close enough to the Land of Fairy to prevent Carl from suffering the consequences. Here’s the weird bit: pick an answer that you like and believe really hard in it, and that will be the one that is true!
Thank you!
