If this page sets off any food related anxieties or bad lunch memories, my apologies. I’m secretly dry washing my hands and cackling with glee at the power of my comic, but I’ve got food anxieties myself and I know how frustrating and difficult those can be.
This is a combination of a couple conversations I remember having at lunch time. In elementary and middle school, we all generally disdained the school lunches. Particularly those of us who had to buy them. In high school, the cafeteria started presenting lunches that weren’t just edible, but sometimes enticing. And then, one of my best friends would often come to school with a lunch similar to Marshall’s. He liked it. It was usually leftovers from one of his favorite dinners. But the thing about goulashes and such is that to someone who hasn’t eaten the dish they look terrible! Some of the yummiest spices are brown!
As for Carl, I didn’t go to school with him, so I only know what that’s like in my head.
