Epic of Sally Robertson, page 39

From the Fenworks

Sometime soon, I’m going to post an “About page” for the comic, including a cast list and description. It will contain some details that will better established in pages to come. Nothing that gives away the plot, just stuff that covers some back story, solidifies the setting, and verifies some people’s suspicions. But until then, a bit about Carl that we already know and can surmise.

Sally’s parents, who are members of the Harmless Free Radicals, rescued Carl from the Fomorians. The Fomorians are one of the first people to have lived on Ireland, according to Irish legend. They were defeated by the Tuatha De Danann, and forced to move and live under the ocean, where they became even more foul and twisted than before. For the purposes of this story, think of them as a cross between fairies and the Deep Ones from the C’thulhu mythos. The Fomorians originally acquired Carl by abducting him from his real parents a long, long time ago. He is a human child force to live and work for deep sea fairies, and he was transformed into a goatfish for that purpose. Apparently, Carl is much older than he looks, and much smarter, because of his time with the Fomorians, who’s magic is dark, terrible and fey. More importantly, and this will be better explained later in the comic, everyone in Jam who has met Carl believes this to be true.

Also, there is a detail in this and the previous page that may look like a continuity error, which is not. Keep and eye out in future pages and see if you catch it! And see if you can maybe figure out what’s going on before the rest of the characters do! (There may be actual continuity errors, because I am one frazzled cartoonist who’s also bad at catching typos, but you can tell this “error” apart because it is consistent).
