Sodt Studio is now fully open for business. Still don’t have my web presence completely ironed out, but my schedule is and my services are fully listed. I now have an excellent way for you to request a personalized drawing from me!
Request an Illustration from Sodt Studio by the half hour!
The way it works is pretty simple:
Think of what you’d like me to draw for you (a dragon, a house, a cup of coffee, a dragon in a house with a cup of coffee, a flower, a boat, a goat, etc.). It can be a stand alone object or a whole scene. Think about what size you’d like the original artwork to be. And think about how detailed you’d like it to be. Pick pen, pencil, or digitally colored! Then go to the Etsy page and fill out the form.
If you’ve chosen something that is about the size of a business card, half an hour to a full hour will be just fine. If you’d like to really challenge me to make it perfect, order more time! There is a maximum of 20 hours allotted for this per week, which comes to 40 units of time, and you may find that someone else has purchased some of it already. If you find you cannot buy more time from me this week, notify me by email and I’ll let you know when more time is available!
A larger piece will take more time to bring to the same level of detail and quality as a smaller piece. If you’re good with math, the exact equation I use is this: 10 minutes for every square inch. When I’m doing my full stippling and shading, it always comes out to that! Almost like clockwork!
Think about doubling the time if you’d like color.
But you don’t have to think that way! You can think of it as a way of challenging me, too.
Basically, this is working to budget. If you’d like a $1200 piece of artwork for me, that’s what you’re going to get! If all you’ve got is $30, well you can get an awfully nice postcard for that, or you can get a large poster sized gesture drawing with a little bit of scrumptious detail thrown in! Mmmm! (Really, my favorite choice!)
The license is simple: It is not work for hire. I own the copyright, you get a non-exclusive, unlimited license to display and reproduce and sell the work. Which means that you can use it for books, movies, cards, magazines, newspapers, websites, etc. But, I can still sell the rights to someone else as well, and I can also display and sell copies as well. You are buying the right to ask me to drawing something and the option to use it yourself. But not just for yourself. AND you’re getting the original artwork! This is really a fantastic license. Most art you buy is not yours to display or sell, just to own for your own enjoyment! The reason I am offering this is because I am a professional illustrator, and I want to see my artwork used.
HOWEVER! This is not a good license for a business logo! Business logos require full ownership and therefor require higher compensation for the transfer of rights. Also, because of their importance, they require a lot more time. Not so much in the crafting of the logo, but in the planning of it. I have done several logos. If you’d like a business logo from me, please email or message me and I will see what I can do.
Also: This is not exactly a commission. This is a prompted, reserved piece of artwork. I will ask you what subject you’d like me to draw, the size and the media, and then I will make the rest of the choices. I might ask you for more details, to further personalize the work, but I might not! And there are no refunds on the time spent on the work. If you don’t want it in the end, I’ll keep it and refund you the shipping, however. So, if you’d like to hire me as if I am a contract worker, creating something on spec, with revisions and corrections, I charge more for that. In that case, please don’t use this order form. Thank you!
