This is the first in a series, as you may be able to tell from the title. I’m actually working on #2 right now! And as I finish each piece and set them up for prints, I’m listing them on my Etsy shop for sale.
In my home town, back in the days before I was born, apparently there was a man who would walk around with a shopping cart or a walker or cane (I don’t remember which) shouting, “Goddamn Bellingham!!! Goddamn Bellingham!!!” Or so my grandmother told me. This image has always stuck with me as particularly satisfying.
I’m really not sure that my series of artwork is what this guy had in mind when he was moved to shout these words. But it pleases me to illustrate what is either all of the reasons you never want to visit the place, or the effects of his cursing Bellingham so fervently.
In any case, the process goes kind of like this: I take a landmark, a scene or a bit of Bellingham culture and attack it with an internet meme. This one is a baby hairless rabbit, for instance.
This piece is also the debut of my professional foray into watercolor!
