I’ve started a little project here to practice my skills while at the same time creating a series of illustrations featuring the cast of The Epic of Sally. I’m taking a scene that I find somewhere (a photo I’ve taken, the background of an old game that’s been released to public domain, a really nice stock photo, a famous classic, etc.), then I’m inserting one of my characters, and then cartooning, inking and coloring it in the style of one of my favorite artists. The first two are Carl as drawn by Herge and Sally as drawn by Waterson. I haven’t colored Sally yet, because I intend to use watercolor for that and it just takes longer for me to set it up. It’ll get done soon enough!

So, the next one, which I’ll be starting on Tuesday, is going to feature Marshall and will be drawn in the style of Katsuhiro Otomo. I just haven’t settled on a scene yet. I’d like it to match Marshall’s interests. He’s into math, astronomy, physics and science fiction. But also, the real challenge is to find a scene that if done in the style of Otomo it would be amazing and a great challenge for me! I think this will work out well, I just need to spend some time looking around.
