Epic of Sally Robertson, page 41

From the Fenworks

This is it, the last comic of the week! My goal was to draw two or three comic pages a day, so that I’d actually have two weeks of comics done, making next week a little easier. What I found was that I did not have enough hours in the day to get that accomplished. I think that if I kept this up, I might be able to push it and eventually get there, but I really desperately need to earn some money. I’ve got to spend today finishing up a couple of contracts and continue my search for work, and next week I need to start producing sale-able artwork again. My trees and dragons have just as many fans as my comic does, after all!

Anyway, as I posted to the Facebook page yesterday, I’m pretty sure that the sweet spot for comic creation for me is two or three pages a week. Once a week is too slow, and I have trouble keeping my energy up (and it’s also agonizing to tell a story that slowly with the small number of panels I have per page). Five days a week is too rushed, and I’m too prone to errors and mistakes (and burnout). I’ve been at this, actually, for thirteen years. I’ve worked this out before, but for my earlier, less detailed artwork. Every now and then, it’s good to repeat your experiment and confirm the results. Every now and then.

And like when doing 24 Hour Comic Day, I now know what I’m capable of.

So, next week, expect comic updates on Tuesday and Thursday. If things go well and I produce a lot of extra pages, I’ll do a bonus update on Saturday.
